The time has finally come! I’m leaving.
Tomorrow summer holidays become reality as I travel to London ahead of my early morning flight to France on Thursday. Along the way I plan to describe my experiences in whatever way I can, and will attempt to keep this space updated.
For now, I am simply going to outline the basic plan of my trip, and explain what I aim to achieve.
Part 1: Toulouse to Barcelona

Flight number FR295 from London Stansted at 07:15. Doesn’t sound too bad until you remember how far Stansted really is from London! That will certainly be an interesting morning!
Anyway, I’m heading to Toulouse on my own, equipped with a positive outlook and any possible camping gear I’ll need. From there, I plan to make a journey of over 300km south across the Pyrenees to Barcelona, Spain.
Hitch-hiking will be my main mode of transport, but I have also planned to hike for around 40km or so as I detour away from main roads to climb the Pic Carlit mountain: one of the largest peaks in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Skirting around Andorra to the east, I plan to enter Spain on either the 2nd or 3rd of June, and reach Barcelona in the next couple of days.
Part 2: Peniscola

By far the less adventurous half of my trip shall take place in the small coastal town of Peniscola.
Here I shall be staying with friends in an apartment, and taking my time to fully enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine.
I expect my stories from Peniscola will be entirely different to those from the Pyrenees, but I am sure I will have plenty to report nonetheless.
I am unashamedly excited about this trip, and look forward to recounting my experiences here.
Til next time,
